So I'm in the midst of tanning my first beaver, I had the orange bottle but after reading post on here I ordered in Trubond. After salting I tried to shave a little with a knife but ended up with a whole in the pelt but it was close to the edge so not much damage done. In 3 days time the citric acid soak will be completed then I have to thin the hide, has anyone ever tried a nylon wheel instead of the wire wheel for thinning. I'm thinking it might be a little more forgiving, any advise is appreciated.

Thanks.

Look at Brian Hendricks taxidermy on you tube and see how he uses the wire wheel to shave all of his hides. Quite impressive especially if you do not have a fleshing wheel. Beaver are really fatty in the hide. Hopefully you have some degreaser chemical that you can put the hide in after wheeling / shaving. It will have to go back into the pickling solution after that step as well.
