Finally! This should work.
It's a special feeling to be wearing fur that comes from ones own efforts and trapline.
I sure wish I had my camera the day I caught those otters.

Click on "slideshow" and then F11 for a better view.

Bugsy "" "" those look toasty warm. I have often wished I had Otter to trap just to have a pair of gloves made.
The hat looks good too. Nice job.

Nice Xmas present.
Know a fellow that saved himself wearing an full sized otter coat, he fell through the ice and the hollow hair of the otter floated him and he rolled out, and got back home 4 miles @ -30c weather, his name is Mr. Johnson, he was in the fishing reel wholesales selling for 30 years after that. Cause he said he gave up hard water fishing from that day on, and was converted to iceless fishing.

Last year, I caught my first 3 otters (ever) in the first week of November. Obviously, the hides were not quite prime and with fur prices way down, I decided to have them tanned. It cost $208.00 (canadian), taxes and shipping included. I will soon have them sent out again to have a hat and a pair of mitts made out of this fine fur. A Christmas gift to myself this year :D

I had a fox and a kit beaver tanned last year by a taxidermist. I found out that a trapper can NOT tan his own fur, MNR wants their royalty (no royalty if you keep for yourself) and you HAVE to have a permit from MNR naming the tanner before you take to tanner - the tanner, by law, must have this permit in order to tan. So beware. Also after the taxidermist finished and I was picking up the 2 pieces he said his tanning method was NOT for garment making - fortunately both were going to be wall hangings. I had sold the fox and gave the kit beaver to my best buddy. I spent a lot of time trying to be able to tan myself but you need a license to tan and a trapper can NOT get a tanning license (unless in far northern Ontario and no tanner close). Would it not be great if life was easy but our governments do not allow that to ever happen!!! Good luck.
