Thanks Brucecounty, I ended up ordering the KT tan by Knobloch from Halfords, I'll try the ez100 next.

Just finished my first small beaver with the KT tan. Turned out good. This is what I did:
1. Pickled it in aluminum sulfate and salt solution for about 30 hours. Took it out of the pickle and re fleshed it. Tried to thin it with a spoke shave, but that didn't work well. Put it back in the pickle for another 12 hours.
2. Neutralized it with fresh water and baking soda for a couple of hours
3. Put it in the tanning solution for 18 hours per the instructions.
4. Rinsed it and let it dry for a bit, then applied a neats foot oil/soap/water solution and let it soak in over night.
5. Started stretching it and working it over a taught wire.

I think I could have left it to dry for a longer time before working it, I stretched it for about 3 hours with little change. The real breaking seemed to take place at the end when I started working it over the wire. The wire really fluffed it up nicely.
After breaking, the hide was still much too thick, even though it was a small beav.
I used a 60 grit flap sanding disk to thin it at the end and that made the real difference. After thinned it was as soft and supple as the beavers I have had tanned at international.
Tried to post pics but photobucket doesn't seem to allow photo editing any more?
Anyone have any suggestions to improve the process? Advice on thinning the hide after the pickle would help, although doing at the end worked well.

Thanx for the update.

Did you by a complete tanning kit. Or just individual parts to tan with?

Waltherpp, I only got the tanning agent from Halfords, not a kit. I got the aluminum sulfate from Home hardware. It is soil acidifier and comes in a 1.5kg container.

Their was a guĂ˝ in Quebec that designed and sold them but he died in 2010. Halford's sell a mini but to get a new tabletop these days you will have to go to a taxidermy supply house in the US.

Does anyone have any experience with the mini fleshers? Do they work well on beavers?

Critter Skinner is my doppelganger..oooh. I don't have..but have used..very easy to use and quick. Also very expensive..but like I said..if you get into volume the investment is worth it. You may gain "friends" when you get one..
