What do I use to tan beaver with? Would like to use it for garnent making.

Send it away to a commercial tannery. None of the home remedies or sweat lost breaking it will get it as nice as the pro's do. The breaking is the key.

Rittel's makes tanning formulas specifically for lighter furbearers, apparently they use it to teach kids how to tan.
It's called Trapline Tanner or something like that.

Just tanned my first pelt with the orange bottle. Used half a bottle on a small coyote sized pelt.

Leather is white and soft after wadding it up in my hands a bit. I cut a piece of the leather and it is white all the way through. Looks good to me.

I did the salt / pickle / neutralize steps first, then applied the tanning solution per instructions on the bottle.

Now looking for a pattern for a fur hat.

How did you break the pelt after tanning?
